In this design class, join the Cubitts team in its HQ workshop to learn the basic skills of frame-making before trying out the craft yourself.
After launching in 2013, Tom Broughton and his team at Cubitts are reviving the craft of frame-making in London, which was once the optic capital of the world. But for Cubitts, it’s not just about making better spectacles; the team are striving to demystify the world of optics and make visiting an optometrist a more engaging, informative and enjoyable experience, while offering exceptional medical services.
On the 20th of March, the Cubitts team will open up the HQ workshop to six members, who will have the opportunity to go behind the scenes and learn the basic skills required in frame-making, before having a go at cutting a front themselves.
Ahead of the class, by Monday the 26th February:
1. Have a think about the type of style of frame you'd like to make on the day. Please then send Charlie any sketches and/or reference images (front view only).
2. If you’d like it to be accurately sized, also attach a well-lit photo of the person for whom you wish to make the frame (e.g. yourself), with a ruler held straight along your forehead.
This will allow the team to develop some technical drawings and cutouts in advance, so that you can make the most of your time together.
