Sam Bompas of Bompas & Parr will be visiting the YCN Library to share five books that have influenced his exuberent enterprises
In 2007 Sam Bompas co-founded the experience design studio, Bompas & Parr, with school friend Harry Parr. Born from a joint desire to push the boundaries of the imagination with memorable ‘polysensory’ experiences, the business first came to prominence through its expertise in architectural jelly-making.
Since then, the business has grown considerably; today functioning as a 20 strong creative studio, offering food and drink design, brand consultancy and other loveingly tailored, immersive experiences. Talking points include the Alcoholic Architecture pop-up bar, the British Museum of Food and most recently SCOOP: A Wonderful Ice Cream World offering up installations "ranging from ornate victorian ice cream moulds to an immersive vanilla fog and glow-in-the-dark ice cream".
Describing himself as the ‘more narrative-based’ of the pair, Sam believes the continued success of Bompas & Parr is all down to storytelling. It is therefore no surprise that he finds his inspiration in literature, and that the studio is host to ‘an epic culinary collection', including several self-published books that explore humankind’s relationship with food.
In the latest chapter of our popular Reading List series, Sam visited the YCN Library on 25th September to introduce a selection of those books to our collection and described the thoughts, ideas and opportunities they've inspired. Read the writeup of Sam's talk here.
