Author of Run Studio Run, Eli Altman, will dial in from California via Zoom to share some key learnings and insights from his book.
“There are no good books for helping small creative studios build and grow their businesses. Until now.”
Eli Altman is the Creative Director at the the California-based naming and branding studio, A Hundred Monkeys. He has led projects for clients including Google, Samsung, and Target – as well as a wide variety of startups. Prior to that, Eli worked as a strategist at MetaDesign and Factor Design in San Francisco.
In 2009 when he first found himself in a leadership role at A Hundred Monkeys, Eli identified that, while his time as a strategist had taught him a lot about how to make creative work and handle clients, he knew “next to nothing about how to actually run a business”. Discussions about running businesses were either happening behind closed doors, or not happening at all. With no choice but to set out on a journey to educate himself – Eli swatted up on ideas and practices from other fields to see what made sense for the studio.
To address this “major gap in creative education”, Eli has written the one book he once sought after: Run Studio Run, a step-by-step guide that helps leaders to look at their studios critically – as a business as opposed to an artistic endeavour.
On the 26th September, Eli will be joining us on Zoom from California to share some key learnings and insights from the book and to answer our questions. If you run a studio and would like to join the conversation, drop us a line below and we’ll send the dial in details.
