On the 2nd of July, Michael Wolff kindly visited to present a selection of books that have inspired and influenced his life and work.
It was a genuine pleasure to welcome Michael Wolff to YCN last night, to share some of the books that have influenced him over the years; and add them to our ever-growing lending library. In a fascinating and inspiring talk that took us on an eye-opening journey through his life and work, the chosen books functioned as a trigger for some of Michael’s musings on design, language, love and humanity.
“You asked me to pick just six books and I couldn’t” he said, proceeding to take us on a whistle-stop tour of his six main titles and a swathe of others, displaying an exuberance that belied his age and experience. As you’ll see from the six books below, adventure and curiosity played a huge role in his choices. As Michael explained, “I use three muscles in my work, and the first is curiosity. If you don't feel curiosity about anything and everything then maybe you shouldn't be a designer".
A huge thank you to Michael for his time. Images from the talk can be seen below, courtesy of photographer Owen Richards. Members can now freely borrow Michael's favourite books, listed below, from the YCN Lending Library at 72 Rivington Street.
