This two hour workshop will introduce the idea of meaningful rest, and explore how through slowing down we can care for ourselves better, and gain more control over what we give our attention to.
We live in a hyper-stimulated world — from the moment we wake in the morning we are flooded with a huge amount of information from different sources, all vying for our attention. This, coupled with the everyday stresses of managing work, family and life in general, means that for many of us resting is low down on our list of priorities. For some, down-time consists of another long to-do list of side hustles and social engagements. We of course need to do stuff in order to meaningfully exist, but when does feeling productive tip over into spreading yourself too thinly, running yourself down or burning out?
If you like being active and busy, sometimes slowing down and finding some stillness can be challenging. But have you ever asked yourself why you need to do so much? Who might you be without all the doing? On Tuesday 18th February, join YCN's Ella Reynolds to reflect on some of these questions. Over a restorative two hours we'll explore some current ideas and theory on the topic, and allow time and space for some practical rest through some proven practices.
What we'll cover:
- Why rest is important for our bodies and minds to function effectively.
- Ideas about the attention economy and how to resist it.
- Shifting mindsets around valuing caring for ourselves.
- Time and space to unplug, unwind and take a break.
- Tools and techniques to guide you in resting.
How the session will be structured:
We'll firstly explore some ideas and theory through presentation and group discussion. Individual and group exercises will give the opportunity for self-reflection, followed by plenty of time to enjoy the relaxation practises of some restorative yoga and guided meditation.
Who the session is for:
Anybody who's feeling a bit overwhelmed by doing and wants to reevaluate their relationship to slowing down and resting.
