Better Breathing
Remote Learning | YCN — For our members and programme participants

This practical ninety minute session, held remotely on Zoom, will explore techniques for breathing more consciously, aiming to improve our sense of connection and wellbeing in the workplace.

Breathing is one of our body’s most basic functions, and most essential to life. From the very first intake of air, it is what guides us through every life event, triumph and challenge. There is much scientific research into the benefits of slowing and connecting to our breath, from a reduction in stress and improving brain function to better sleeping patterns. And with the rise in popularity of practices such as yoga and meditation, where breath work is integral, many people are waking up to the fact that our best tool for becoming more grounded and present, dealing with stress, boosting our energy and even regulating our temperature is always right at our disposal.

In this ninety minute session we will explore why breathing well is so important for our minds and bodies to function well. We'll learn and practice some simple techniques for controlling and connecting to our breath to take away and use to better take care of ourselves, and make space in our busy work day.  

What we'll cover
    •    Introduction to the physiology and mechanics of breathing
    •    The benefits of breathing better 
    •    Why and how to connect to your breath 
    •    Different breathing techniques to learn and practice for reducing stress and calming the mind

How the session will be structured
We'll explore some theory to lay the foundations, and then jump into learning practical techniques. With plenty of time to practice, reflect and share experiences. Participants will leave with some new practical tools for increasing their resilience through using their breath. 

Who is the session for:
The session is for anyone who is curious about the power of our breath and wants to explore ways of improving their sense of wellbeing. This is an introductory session designed for those new to breath work, although those with more experience welcome.
