Keeping up regular 1-1s with team members is all the more important for people managers, when teams are working remotely. And in this practical session we'll cover some important principles for when you're not in the same room.
In a purposeful 1-1 people managers connect with their team members on the challenges and opportunities of the day, strengthening their mutual understanding and ensuring that goals are clear and being worked towards, both inside and outside of work. A protected space in calendars, good 1-1s create time for coaching and mentoring, for opening up and sharing blockers.
With teams currently more distributed than ever, and with uncertainty abound — it's easy for 1-1s to slip both in terms of their frequency and their focus. But these conversations have never been more important to sustain, and also to evolve — to take into consideration the contextual differences to the ways we connect, liaise, communicate when we're not in the same physical space. From the style of our communication, to clarity around goals; building trust to creatively using technology — there are plenty of practical principles to apply, to support strong ongoing relationships in difficult times.
In this short, remote session coach and mediator Sarah Banks will share some of these principles with a group of people managers; facilitating conversation around them and encouraging us to practice and apply them in small groups.
