We'll explore the notion of assertiveness, learn effective ways to be more purposefully assertive and recognise our individual past and current blockers.
Can you recall a situation where you weren't as assertive as you'd have liked to have been? When we can, we often feel frustrated as a result, that we've let things slide — and created future complications within our relationships. This focussed and practical session is about digging deeper into the idea of assertiveness — and exploring ways we can assert ourselves positively; rather than coming across as passive, passive-aggressive or aggressive.
What we'll cover:
• Defining assertiveness
• Communicating in a more effective way in specifically difficult situations
• The difference between assertive, passive, passive-aggressive & aggressive behaviours
• The role of triggers is preventing assertiveness
• Transactional analysis as a method of improving difficult communication.
How the session will be structured:
We'll combine some expert instruction with group discussion and practicing new approaches in small virtual groups. Exercises will tailored to individual and collective challenges, and opportunities for being more assertive among the group.
Who the session is for:
Anyone keen to up their assertiveness, leave with immediately applicable tools and techniques and to learn new skills among a supportive group of peers.
