Discover and define your strengths, so that you're able to put them into practice daily — and support others around you in doing the same.
"There is no more effective way to empower people than to see each person in terms of his or her strengths."
Don Clifton. Pioneer of strengths psychology and the inventor of Clifton Strengths
From the research and work of Clifton, Jack Zenger and Joseph Folkman among others, strengths-based approaches have become widely adopted concepts for leaders and their teams. A simple question that's believed to determine if you're on a high-performance team or not is — 'at work, do you have the opportunity to use your strengths every day?'
There are many benefits of knowing, and playing to, our strengths. When we identify, acknowledge and name our strengths we can find more opportunities to put them to work, team up with the right colleagues to complement them — and also appreciate where me might be overplaying them. And when we make our strengths visible to others, and create a common language around them in our teams, we create cultures where people are happier, more gets done and opportunities are more purposefully shared.
This session is all about recognising the power of strengths based approaches, learning how to identify our own and keep them in mind — and ways we can help others to play to theirs.
What we'll cover:
• The science of strengths
• How to identify and codify our own strengths
• How to give strength based feedback
• How overplayed strengths can show up as weaknesses
• Balancing strengths among teams
How this session will be structured:
The session will balance some theory with group discussion and small group activities. You'll also leave with some post-session actions, to conclude your own discovery and application of key strengths.
Who the session is for:
Anyone curious as to the purpose and potential of a strength-based approach to getting more done at work, and for happier and more productive teams.
