Discover the methods and mindsets that enable mentoring relationships to bring transformative and mutually valuable development to all involved.
1-1 mentoring relationships offer a unique way to encourage learning, inter-personal development and the welcoming of diverse perspectives both internally and from outside an organisation. At YCN we've designed and delivered programmes that match and bring people together cross-organisationally, as well as helping partners ranging from Soho House to Citigroup, to launch company wide initiatives that create diverse connections, and foster knowledge sharing internally.
When mentoring is done well there's nothing quite like it for mutually valuable personal development, for fostering conversation, for honing coaching and listening skills, for pulling in perspectives different to your own and for feeling deeply connected to the growth of someone-else. But it's vital to create the right cultural conditions, practical frameworks and learning mindsets for these relationships to take root and flourish; rather than wither on the vine.
And that's our firm focus within session— aimed at people currently mentoring others, keen to do so; or those keen to explore starting an internal mentoring programme at their place of work — and aiming for success.
What we'll cover:
• Sharing some short studies of successul programmes
• Objective setting, and how success can be measured
• Mentoring mindsets
• Matching mentors and mentees
• Balancing structure with flexibility
• Key skills for mentors to develop
• Beginning and ending mentoring relationships
How the session will be structured:
We'll hear from some partners to have benefitted well from mentoring initiatives and programmes, open some conversation around opportunities for those along and run some practical discussion and exercises in smaller groups.
Who the session is for:
People and organisations keen to explore the impact that mentoring can have for learning and culture, whether you're currently mentoring someone, are about to do so, or are curious as to what mentoring could bring to your place of work.
