Facilitating remote groups, with Kirsty Lewis

Facilitating remote groups, with Kirsty Lewis

“Your opening needs to be a kind of pleasant shock therapy. It should grab people, and plant in them the paradoxical feeling of being totally welcomed and deeply grateful to be there.” ― Priya Parker, The Art of Gathering

Enhance your ability to bring energy, focus and participation to meetings, workshops and any other kind of virtual gathering.

To facilitate means to 'make something easy', but it's likely you'll have been in a group situation that felt difficult — that lacked purpose, energy and impact. Perhaps a meeting that drifted and people dropped out of, or a workshop that started well but lost its way. And in these currently distributed times, with an emphasis on virtual gathering, these pitfalls can feel all the more present.

But it doesn't have to be this way, and there are well established models and methods that we can all be using for transformative effect when groups come together.

Sharing these is the purpose of this session, led by School of Facilitation Founder Kirsty Lewis alongside a YCN facilitator. We'll draw from many of the principles and approaches that Kirsty and YCN have sharpened in delivering virtual sessions for distributed groups of all shapes and sizes.

From setting better expectations and inclusively kicking things off, to creating rich virtual environments and managing group dynamics — you'll experience first hand proven tools and techniques to put into play for more participation, energy and value from any kind of group situation you find yourself in.

How the session will be structured:

Led by Kirsty and a facilitator from YCN, we'll enjoy an energising mix of instruction, discussion and putting new approaches and techniques into immediate practice — with conversational reflection and review.

Who the session's for:

Anyone keen to build their virtual facilitation skills right away, and to practice new approaches among a supportive group of like-minds. You might be new to the idea of facilitation or looking to build on existing skills. The session content is as relevant to running a series of client workshops as it is bringing a bit more oomph to your Monday morning meeting.

The flow of the session was great; a mix of teaching, discussion and reflection on individual approaches to facilitation. I left feeling energised rather than over-whelmed!
