The Belgian photographer’s stunning photo series captures the grace and elegance of the discipline, whilst revealing some of its practical, unromantic realities.

In partnership with The 405, Flore has taken her camera behind the scenes at rehearsals for The Royal Ballet’s latest production, Connectome.

Her images communicate that the beauty of a final polished performance is hard won — achieved through hours of rehearsal, physical effort and oftentimes, pain.

By paying attention to creases of fabric; pointe shoes, scissors and tape strewn across the floor; and a dancer pausing to take a rest, Flore’s black and white essay captures the physical endurance and perseverance behind the precision and finesse of a finished production.
