Combining essays with photography, Member Agency Charlie Smith Design has designed a book to accompany the V&A’s exhibition, Balenciaga: Shaping Fashion.
The V&A has curated its latest exhibition, which examines the sculptural work and legacy of the Spanish couturier, Cristóbal Balenciaga. To accompany the showcase, Member Agency Charlie Smith Design has been commissioned to design a book that summarises the designer’s philosophy.
Alongside new photography, the book features a number of archival essays and images, formatted in a way that seeks to reflect the effortless perfectionism of the works by the designer who shaped modern fashion.
While full bleed imagery spotlights the detail and precision of his craftsmanship, the largely monochrome book takes influence from Balenciaga’s dramatic use of colour, with the only splashes of colour being a bold shade of red – as seen on the cover and introductory pages.
