Mastering Business Models, with Louise Hedges
In this collaborative and commercially enlightening session, we'll deconstruct the practical and popular 'Business Model Canvas' — applying its principles to our own existing and future business ideas, and in the process enhance our vocabulary around business models and commercial strategy.
This session is all about increasing our commercial awareness by actively mapping, designing and evaluating business models. You might be looking to scrutinise, or better understand, an existing business — or map out and sense-check the thinking behind something new.
Drawing from the simple, proven structure of Alex Osterwalder's Business Model Canvas, and based on sessions we've delivered in our work with different leadership teams — we'll reveal the relevance and relationship between canvas components like key partners and opportunities, value propositions, customer relationships, segments, channels, resources, cost structures and revenue streams.
Led by commercial expert Louise Hedges, we'll work collectively and in small groups, using the canvas to visualise and tell the story of an example business model, and relating what we reveal back to our own. Language barriers will fall, and opportunities will arise.
What we'll cover:
• A breakdown of the Business Model Canvas, and how to make the most of it
• How to map out a business opportunity
• Scanning the existing market, and revealing blindspots
• Understanding value, and how to find it
How the session will be structured:
We'll make a Business Model Canvas visible on a shared Miro board (don't worry if you've not used Miro before), populate it together in relation to real world scenarios; and our own business opportunities too. Along the way Louise will break down and demystify some commercial language, and encourage us to codify some of our own common language too. Everyone along will be armed with smart digital resources to enable them to carry the momentum of the session into their own businesses.
Who the session is for:
Anyone keen to continually improve their business model mapping and commercial awareness from any starting point. The session will also be really helpful for anyone to expand their business vocabulary, up their understanding of the commercial challenges front of mind for clients and colleagues.
