Rethinking Resilience
We'll together explore the principle of resilience and discover practical, social and realistic ways for bouncing back from challenges, managing stress and using our energy more effectively.
Bounce-backabiity?
We all face challenging times at work, as in most areas of our lives. We might be great at planning and mitigating risks, but there will always be situations, people and external circumstances that knock us off course, stress us out or shake our confidence — many of them out of our control.
But what is more within our control, is how we respond to these events. Through awareness and practice we can train ourselves to think and react differently, changing the way we perceive challenges, and using these experiences to become stronger.
From me, to we
And socially, and within the unit of the team — there's much we can be doing to support one another towards greater resilience; something we'll practically pull into the focus of the session, drawing on the recent work and research of Bruce Daisley in his latest book Fortitude.
Being resilient doesn’t mean challenges disappear, but it does mean that we cope better, learn from past experiences and build an internal stability to thrive in times of difficulty.
Over an energising 90 minutes we'll collectively explore different approaches for growing resilience, and share some tools and techniques to take away and apply.
What we'll cover:
• What resilience means to us individually
• The stress response and how it affects the body and mind
• Tips for regulating our nervous system to be calmer and more present in the face of challenges
• Busy vs Effective: techniques to get the most out of your brain and energy
• The ABC model, and reframing challenges
• How lifestyle choices support or reduce resilience
How the session will be structured:
Inclusively led by a YCN coach facilitator, we'll mix up the introduction of new ideas and approaches, group discussion and trying out proven principles and practices individually and collectively.
Who the session's for:
Anyone keen to dig into the concept of resilience, challenge and reframe key tenets, explore how they perceive and react to challenges and willing to experiment among supportive peers.
It felt intimate and I really liked the break out discussions, meeting new people and hearing their take on resilience and seeing how it differed from mine. The session was full of practical tips too.
