Running remote 1-1s
The importance of purposeful 1-1s with team members has become all the more evident for people managers in these distributed times. In this practical and social session we'll explore proven and behaviourally driven principles for remote relational success.
In a valuable 1-1 people managers connect with their team members on the challenges and opportunities of the day, strengthening their mutual understanding and ensuring that goals are clear and being worked towards. A protected space in calendars, good 1-1s create time for coaching and mentoring, for opening up and sharing blockers.
With teams now more distributed than ever — it's easy for 1-1s to slip both in terms of their frequency and their focus. But these conversations have never been more important to sustain, and also to evolve. From the style of our communication, to clarity around goals; building trust to using tech to co-create agendas — there are plenty of practical principles to apply, to support strong ongoing relationships in remote times.
In this virtual and hands-on session, we'll work through these principles as a supportive group of people managers; facilitating conversation around them, sharing perspectives and practicing our approach in small groups right away.
What we'll cover:
• The shift to virtual
• Types of conversation
• Planning and facilitating a performance conversation
• Contracting and re-contracting
• The Ikea effect, and the power of co-created agendas
• Building trust, by lowering self-orientation
• Listening to understand
Really clear examples of how to apply the theory that was shared.
